# Glue

_Acquisition & integration_

2024 · CTO · shipped

A Finnish VR collaboration platform that Hyperspace acquired in 2024. I ran the technical due diligence, kept Glue running for its customers, and led its integration into our platform.

## Overview

Glue was a virtual collaboration platform from Helsinki. Teams in different places could meet in shared VR rooms, give presentations and work with 3D objects together.

[Hyperspace](https://jfcampos.dev/projects/hyperspace.md) acquired it in 2024. It was the largest of the three acquisitions I worked on. More about that time in [Becoming a CTO](https://jfcampos.dev/articles/becoming-a-cto.md).

## Glue and Hyperspace

Glue solved the same problem we did, in a different way. It was built in Unity and ran on dedicated VR headsets, with high-end visuals. Hyperspace ran in the browser with nothing to install, but with less visual fidelity. With Glue, we could offer both.

## The integration

Before the deal, I ran the technical due diligence and helped the CEO plan the acquisition. After it, I had two jobs at once: keep Glue running for the customers who depended on it, and bring its features and environments into our platform.

For the first, I had to learn their codebase and infrastructure quickly: the architecture, the deployment process and how their Unity setup worked. I supervised maintenance and support, and kept their VR components running.

For the second, the hardest part was the content. Working with our 3D art team, I led the migration of their environments from Unity to WebGL, so they could run on our platform.

## My involvement

- Ran the technical due diligence and helped the CEO plan and carry out the acquisition.
- Kept Glue's platform running for its existing customers during the transition.
- Led the technical integration into Hyperspace, including the migration of environments from Unity to WebGL.
