2016 · Sound Design & Music

An experimental video game made over a weekend at MalagaJam, where I did the music and sound effects and used Wwise to make the score react to what was happening in the game.

## Overview

Tu Casa Es La Mía ("Your house is mine") is an experimental video game about civilisations conquering each other's planets. The player controls a fleet of ships and decides which planet to invade next.

Three of us made it over a weekend at one of the [MalagaJam](https://jfcampos.dev/projects/malaga-jam.md) hackathons. As organisers, we sometimes used the jams to build something small ourselves and try out ideas, and this was one of those.

## The audio

I had been experimenting with procedural audio at the time, and this was a chance to try it in a game. I composed the music and made the sound effects, and used Wwise inside Unity to connect them to the game.

The music was split into layers that came in and out with the action. When nobody was attacking, you only heard the main melody. When ships started attacking, the drums and bass came in, and as the fighting grew, the synths joined. The sound effects had several variations each, with random pitch and panning, so a ship firing over and over didn't sound like the same sample on repeat. More about it in [Audio & speech](https://jfcampos.dev/expertise/audio-speech.md#tu-casa-es-la-mia).

## My involvement

- Composed the music and made the sound effects.
- Built the adaptive score in Wwise, integrated with Unity and driven by the game state.
