Glue

Overview

Glue was a virtual collaboration platform from Helsinki. Teams in different places could meet in shared VR rooms, give presentations and work with 3D objects together.

Hyperspace acquired it in 2024. It was the largest of the three acquisitions I worked on. More about that time in Becoming a CTO.

Glue and Hyperspace

Glue solved the same problem we did, in a different way. It was built in Unity and ran on dedicated VR headsets, with high-end visuals. Hyperspace ran in the browser with nothing to install, but with less visual fidelity. With Glue, we could offer both.

The integration

Before the deal, I ran the technical due diligence and helped the CEO plan the acquisition. After it, I had two jobs at once: keep Glue running for the customers who depended on it, and bring its features and environments into our platform.

For the first, I had to learn their codebase and infrastructure quickly: the architecture, the deployment process and how their Unity setup worked. I supervised maintenance and support, and kept their VR components running.

For the second, the hardest part was the content. Working with our 3D art team, I led the migration of their environments from Unity to WebGL, so they could run on our platform.
