Hyperspace

Overview

Hyperspace is a platform for building and running 3D experiences in the browser. No installs, no plugins — a URL opens a virtual world where users can engage with each other and the environment.

From single-user learning experiences, to group video conferences, to large-scale events with thousands of attendees, Hyperspace allows authors to select and personalise environments, define tasks and rewards, place interactive objects and characters, and script scenarios.

What it does

Background

I joined in 2014, when my games company was acquired by Hyperspace (formerly LearnBrite). I was appointed CTO and led the technical strategy of the company for the next 12 years. More about my experience at Hyperspace in Becoming a CTO.

Hyperspace has pivoted slightly over time. It started as a serious-game authoring platform for education and training, and expanded into corporate training, collaborative workspaces and live events.

We have created experiences and hosted events for organisations like the UN, Accenture, Salesforce, IBM, Dell, Shell, Novartis, Volvo, Fujitsu, Santander and TEDx.

My involvement

I developed the core architecture of the platform, led the teams working on it and oversaw client projects — from the first Three.js prototype for Virtual Home Visit to an infrastructure handling 16,000 concurrent participants.
